Thien Ho takes oath as Sacramento County DA, says we must ‘go together’

At a ceremony yesterday at the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors Chambers, Thien Ho was sworn in as Sacramento County District Attorney.
Ho was elected in the June primary after defeating Alana Mathews with 57 percent of the vote. Ho replaces Ann Marie Schubert, who decided against a third term. Instead, Schubert unsuccessfully ran for California Attorney General.
Administering the oath was Sacramento Superior Court Judge Helena Geown.
In his comments, Ho acknowledged the significance of his election as District Attorney as the first non-Causasion to hold the office. He also noted that district attorneys are the gatekeeper of the criminal justice system.
Additionally, he invoked an African proverb that states if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.
“What we have to do is go together,” Ho said.
After joining the D.A.’s office in 2004, Ho became a lead prosecutor who, among his numerous cases, prosecuted the Golden State Serial Killer, Joseph DeAngelo.
