Voices of Elk Grove – Cat population control advocates push for more animal shelter services
Critics highlight what they characterize as frivolous spending
During the May 24, 2023, Elk Grove City Council meeting, several people pressed the city council for more services at the Elk Grove Animal Shelter.
Specifically, the speakers said Elk Grove has an out-of-control feral cat problem that must be addressed. To alleviate the situation, the feline advocates said as Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and her four city councilmen must include the hiring of a new veterinarian in the fiscal year 2024 budget, which will be adopted by June 30, 2023.
To stress their point, the speakers highlighted many discretionary purchases made by the city ranging from frivolous to outrageous. Among the frivolous were hundreds of dollars for cookies to the outrageous, including over $19,000 for hotel accommodations in Washington D.C. for Mayor Bobbies Singh-Allen’s entourage.
