Voices of Sacramento County – SEIU Local 2015 member says they are ‘fighting for bread crumbs in a bread factory’
During public comment on August 8, 2023, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors heard from a member of SEIU Local 2015.
Noting how the Sacramento County Supervisors gave themselves a 36-percent pay increase, Local 2015 member Steven Payán said In Home Supportive Workers workers also needed an equity increase. IHSS workers provide one-on-one in-home services for a variety of disabled community members.
SEIU is currently in negotiations with Sacramento County and seeks a graduated pay increase from $16.50 to $20 an hour. After Payán’s commentary, Board Chair Rich Desmond said the supervisors would discuss the SEIU negotiations during their closed session.
