Warming center to open Wednesday night in Elk Grove

From the City of Elk Grove

Elk Grove will open an Overnight Warming Location (OWL) beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, March 1, and operate it nightly through Friday, March 3. The location will be the Cosumnes CSD Teen Center at the Wackford Community Complex (9014 Bruceville Road).

The Warming Center is open to adults 18 and older who lack shelter or adequate home heating. Operating hours will be 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. each day. A limited number of animal kennels will be available to house pets, if needed. Face coverings will be required unless visitors are eating or sleeping. Families with children will be referred to a motel voucher program coordinated by Elk Grove HART.

Cosumnes Fire Department CERT, Elk Grove Police Department, and Elk Grove HART volunteers will staff the space. Organizers initiated the opening of the warming center because projected temperatures will fall to or below 32 degrees three or more days in a row.

Visit elkgrovecity.org/owl for more information about the program or to sign up to receive notifications whenever a warming center is scheduled to open.
