West Sacramento postal employee pleads guilty to theft, marijuana distribution
Shabina Debbie, 54, of West Sacramento, pleaded guilty on Tuesday, December 6 to theft of mail by a Postal Service employee and possession with intent to distribute marijuana, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced.
According to court documents, between October 2018 and February 2019, Debbie stole items from the mail as a postal employee in Sacramento. One of the packages stolen contained more than three pounds of marijuana.
As part of her plea, Debbie forfeited over $125,000 in cash found in her home during the execution of a search warrant.
This case is the product of an investigation by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorney Denise N. Yasinow is prosecuting the case.
Debbie is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez on March 14, 2023. Debbie faces a maximum statutory penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
