Witness identifies catalytic converter thief, suspect arrested by Elk Grove Police

Thanks to a mindful witness, Elk Grove Police arrested a man suspected of stealing a catalytic converter.

Just after midnight on Wednesday, August 3, a community member working tin the area of Dino Drive observed a person under a parked vehicle cutting the catalytic converter. After successfully cutting the converter, the subject was observed leaving the area on foot.

The suspect was seen hiding in bushes and the witness called the police. Responding officers located and arrested Alonso Murillo, 30, who was booked into the County Jail on felony grand theft charges.

Alonso is not eligible for bail and will be arraigned on Friday, August 5.
